Why
haven't I seen you in Travel Agents?
Our
tours can only be booked direct and are not available through Travel
Agents.
There
are several reasons for this, Agents will often promote a Tour Company
in order to make a sale. Attempts will often be made to sell a tour
more suited to the benefit of the Agent (e.g. higher commission)
than the client. Commissions paid to Agent is ultimately passed
on to the Client, resulting in higher Tour prices.
What
do you do instead of a Travel Agent?
We prefer to encourage prospective passengers where possible to
visit us at our address below to view maps, photos, etc., and to
discuss the trip a lot more detail. Those of us that work in the
office have been on most of, or all of our tours. Many of you will
have heard of us from your friends as more than 60% of our passengers
come via recommendation. We're sure that if you are going to commit
yourself to this type of travel in Africa then you want to know
exactly what you are letting yourself in for.
Right.
So, where’s the Brochure?
If you are seriously considering travelling through Africa, you
will undoubtedly check out all the expeditions offered by other
overland companies. Instead of trying to compete by printing a bigger
and better glossy brochure (with the extra cost passed on to you),
we have decided to let the opposition sell Africa. Rather than selling
Africa the brochure and website is designed for the traveller who
has already made up their mind to go to Africa and is now looking
for the best value available. Our brochure is a written version
of the contents of our website, we try and keep our web site more
up to date by constantly asking our drivers for information (which
is not always forthcoming as understandably a lot of them prefer
to drive than type!) our web site is maintained by our office staff,
who have loads of African experience.
I've
read the tour information, and I like it! Any general information?
Right, the important stuff. The following
are probably the most important facts to consider before booking
on an expedition:
COMPATIBILITY:
Is essential when travelling for several months with the same
group of people. Our groups are typically made up of Kiwi, Aussie
and British travellers. Young (18-mid 30's), relatively adventurous
independent people, who probably wouldn't normally book on an organised
tour, but accept it to be the most practical and economical way
of seeing Africa.
Our expeditions will not appeal to the elderly or unadaptable glossy
brochure package tour brigade, who need the security of a strict
itinerary and who need to be led around on a guided tour and to
be constantly entertained. Rather than just transporting a group
of people through Africa in the insulated security of a truck, we
encourage and expect expedition members to get out and do things
for themselves, this being the only way to experience the real Africa.
RELIABILITY: Our expedition trucks are fully equipped for
travel in Africa. Fitted with long range fuel and water tanks, sand
mats, etc., we also carry a very comprehensive set of spare parts.
As a result, delays due to mechanical problems are very rare. Our
expedition completion rate is 100%, which means that in spite of
border closures, civil disturbances and adverse weather conditions,
we have always arrived at our destination. In addition for our gorilla
and Kenya to South Africa safaris we keep our own workshop in East
Africa with spares of everything - trucks, parts tents, equipment
and even drivers!!
COMFORT: Seating consists of comfortable, individual coach
seats. Avoid bench seats; there is always room for one more.
FLEXIBILITY: If we decide to spend longer at the beach, for
instance, or to take detours (at the for, or if we have delays due
to driver's discretion), or make stops at places not accounted circumstances
beyond our control, rather than rush you through your journey of
a lifetime trying to make up time, we prefer to extend the length
of the expedition - at no extra cost. This only applies to our trans
Africa expeditions. The shorter trips are generally more predictable
and usually arrive on time.
VALUE:
Our expeditions are, without doubt, the best value available. The
belief that the more you pay the more you get does not apply in
this case. On the contrary, how many of the other established overland
operators offer as comprehensive an itinerary for a price as low
as we do?
WHY ARE WE SO CHEAP? The answer is simple. We reduce overheads
by not having an expensive High Street office, by not printing expensive
glossy brochures, by not employing non-productive staff (including
couriers), by making only a reasonable profit, and by selling direct
rather than through an agent, and keeping our advertising costs
to a minimum. All these facts contribute to considerable cost savings
which are passed on to you
